Gila County Superior Court Resumes Jury Trials

On August 7, 2020, a Gila County jury returned a verdict in State v. Tourner. This is the first jury trial conducted in Gila County since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Presiding Judge Tim Wright wishes to thanScalesOfJusticeFacemask350k the following people who allowed the Superior Court to resume jury trials:
*  The citizens of Gila County who responded to the jury summons and served as jurors
* The Gila County Clerk’s Office and Jury Commissioner for working with potential jurors
* The Hon. Bryan Chambers, Superior Court Division One, and his Judicial Assistant
* All other Court staff members who put in extra work, were flexible, and were not afraid to operate in new ways.
The Superior Court continues to take measures to protect the health of all persons (including potential jurors) entering the Courthouse by requiring face coverings, ensuring adequate room for social distancing, and conducting additional cleaning/sanitization procedures.
The next Jury Trial in the Gila County Superior Court is scheduled for August 26, 2020.

Facemasks Required to Enter County Courthouses
Judges and staff across Gila County’s court system express their appreciation to everyone from routine court users to claimants to attorneys for using the phone, email and website to conduct business during May. This helpful compliance with court requirements reduced visits and enhanced safety, mitigating the spread of CoVid-19, while still allowing the courts to fulfill their essential function – service to the public. If you’re unable to avoid a visit in person, you’ll see more court staff wearing facemasks – and, starting June 1, make sure to bring yours: masks will be required of anyone entering court buildings in both Globe and Payson. Official language says that effective June 1: “any visitor to the courthouses in Payson or Globe will be required to wear a mask, face covering, or face shield.”
If you’re unable to secure a mask of your own, one will be provided for you -- but you should definitely plan to bring your own, more comfortable or familiar mask!

Routine court business can now be handled by telephone, email, or mail.
