County Implements Monthly Dollar Day at Landfills

In response to public input, Gila County will implement monthly landfill “dollar days” to help residents dispose of waste at a significantly reduced rate.

The Gila County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to modify the County’s landfill rate schedule to allow for Gila County residents to bring waste to the landfill for $1/load on the second Saturday of each month. The first dollar day will be Saturday, May 12.

“We’ve heard a lot of feedback that this is something folks want, so we’re happy to be able to make this happen,” said Gila County Public Works Director Steve Sanders.

The county hopes that these monthly dollar days will support mitigating blight in our communities, help cut down on illegal dumping, and make it easier for residents to keep their properties clear of brush and other green waste during this year’s fire season.

Proof of Gila County residency will be required, such as a driver’s license or utility bill. Residents should be prepared for wait times, as Gila County landfills can only allow ten vehicles in at a time for safety reasons. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we implement this service.

The $1 second Saturday rate is not valid for:

  • commercial haulers or any for-profit company or individual using the landfills
  • non Gila County residents
  • hazardous materials not normally accepted by Gila County landfills
