ATV Wreck results in one Fatality

David Silverstein, age 27, was pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained during a single vehicle ATV wreck on Forest Road 200 just south of Forest Road 291 (Colcord Road) in Christopher Creek.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call on August 2, 2013, at approximately 06:15 PM, reporting a wreck on Colcord Road but due to limited cell phone reception, the Sheriff’s Office could not get an exact location.  Deputies along with Christopher Kohl’s Fire Department responded to the area in an attempt to locate the wreck.

Deputies were able to locate the wreck on Forest Road 200 about a quarter mile south of the Colcord Road.  Deputies immediately tried to render first aid to the victim until Christopher Kohl’s arrived on scene.  After a short time, David was pronounced deceased due to injuries sustained.

Initial investigation shows that David was the only rider of the ATV and it appears that he tried to negotiate a curve in the road, lost control of the quad and hit a pine tree where he was ejected from the ATV.

David’s sister arrived later looking for her brother and was informed of what happened.  David was transported to Messinger Funeral home in Payson.  The Sheriff’s Office is currently waiting on toxicology to determine if there were any other factors that could have contributed to the wreck.  The case is still under investigation
