| Floodplain Use Permit Information A floodplain use permit is a document that authorizes a specific activity within the regulatory floodplain. Virtually every man-made structure or improvement constructed within a regulatory floodplain or erosion hazard area requires a floodplain use permit prior to beginning construction. Gila County issues permits for floodplain areas in unincorporated areas of the county. Floodplain use permits for properties in the City of Globe, Payson, or Miami can be obtained by contacting the respective floodplain agency in each municipality. Floodplain Use Permit Applications may be obtained from Gila County Engineering Services in either the Globe or Payson offices, or from the forms section of this web site. The purpose of the permit process is to minimize the likelihood of damages incurred to buildings or improvements in the event of a flood. The regulations are also in place to ensure that proposed improvements will not cause flooding problems for downstream neighbors, or even those located upstream. Before issuing a permit, our staff checks to make sure that your proposed building or improvement is in conformance with the County´s Floodplain Management Ordinance To help potential home buyers or land purchasers understand the detailed hydrologic conditions on their property, County staff reviews and provides the floodplain status information and any restrictions associated with specific uses on the parcel. |
