The mission of the Gila County PUBLIC WORKS DIVISION is to provide the public with professional services in a safe, cost effective and efficient manner. Assumes diverse duties and activities in Administration, Engineering, Facilities, Fleet Vehicle and Equipment Services, Solid Waste and Road Maintenance for the Gila County Maintained Roadway System. Gila County Public Works Division strives to provide quality service to citizens. Although each department has a separate yet related function, they all work together to achieve the goals of the Division. Departmental Responsibilities: Administrative serves as a centralized office to support the coordination of the Public Works functions and facilitates most major activities including working with other governmental agencies, cooperative agreements for use of material pits, right-of-ways and maintenance on roads; solid wastes; scheduling of construction projects and vehicle/equipment maintenance; and employee training. Serves departments with functional administration, financial and personnel management. Engineering provides the surveying, mapping, design and technical knowledge for construction, maintenance and planning of roadways and drainage structures. Provides installation of all signing and striping on County-maintained roads including traffic control for road construction and maintenance operations. Provides subdivision grading and drainage plan review. Issues grading, drainage, and right-of-way permits for Gila County. Also, provides support to the Flood Control District. Facilities and Land Management is responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of all County buildings and handles these responsibilities according to OSHA and ADA requirements. The Department oversee any remodeling or construction of County office and shop buildings. Facilities and Land Management is responsible for tracking building and property rental for Gila County whether they are landlord or tenant based. Road Maintenance is responsible for the improvement and maintenance of the County Maintained Roadway System. Its primary function is to provide a safe and accessible roadway system to move citizens and commodities in and around the County. The Department assists other agencies in responding to emergencies such as fires and floods. The Department also manages the equipment and vehicle maintenance shops for the entire County Fleet. Solid Waste is responsible for the operation and compliance of two active landfills; five transfer stations; two waste tire collection sites; and four closed landfills. The Solid Waste Department has recycling centers at both landfills and actively recycles green waste, metal, batteries, oil, and tires. The Solid Waste Department operates under the rules and regulations of the EPA and the ADEQ. |
