In Memory of Former Supervisor Christensen
January 14, 1934 - November 29, 2012
Ronald Alfred Christensen was born Jan. 14, 1934 to Christen Jens and Florence Clark Christensen. Mr. Christensen passed from this life on Nov. 29, 2012 after a short, but difficult battle with pulmonary fibrosis at the age of 78 years.
Mr. Christensen was born and raised in the St. Croix Falls, Wis. area and while in high school started a business picking up milk from farmers and delivering to the Rock Ridge Creamery.
He married the love of his life, Clarice Anderson, June 16, 1956 in Center City, Minn. They have been married for 56 years. To this union they were blessed with two sons, Stephen and Kevin.
Ron and Clarice were entrepreneurs at heart, having many different businesses.
Mr. Christensen was drafted into the U.S. Army in February 1957 and served a total of eight years.
Ron and Clarice moved to Payson in October 1982 and owned and operated Tonto Books ’n T-Shirts and Tonto Silkscreen for seven years.
Mr. Christensen became interested in serving the people of Gila County and ran for District One Supervisor where he served for 16 years.
Upon retirement, Ron and Clarice took many extended trips and enjoyed time with each other, family and friends.
Mr. Christensen enjoyed reading, watching TV, family time, and especially hunting with his sons and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Clarice; two sons, Stephen, married to Karen Percell, who resides in Payson, and their daughter, Sarah, married to Ian Burkhart, who resides in Houston, Texas and their son, Casey, married to Emily Long, who resides in McKinney, Texas and are expecting Ron and Clarice’s first great-grandchild; Kevin is married to Diane Ramey, residing in Couer D’Alene, Idaho and their children, Brandon and Keely.
Funeral services will be held at Messinger Payson Funeral Home, Friday, Dec. 7. Visitation will be at 10 a.m., with the service at 11 a.m.
Interment will be Saturday, Dec. 15 at the Sand Lake Cemetery, Dresser Wis.
