Globe-Miami Plastics Recycling Moved to Landfill

Over the coming week, Gila County will remove the green recycling bins it has provided in Globe-Miami due to ongoing and excessive contamination with trash and hazardous materials.

The bins will be relocated to Russell Gulch Landfill and placed under surveillance, with the hope that this will cut down on them being filled with trash and allow them to remain available to the public at this new location. Gila County currently provides the bins at the open lot east of the courthouse, on South Broad across from the VFW, and on the vacant lot by Fry’s.

Although problems with trash and other dangerous contaminants in the bins has been continuous, in recent months the bins have been more than 50% contaminated, which forced their removal. Hazardous materials in the bins create unsafe conditions for the county employees who must sort them.

The blue cardboard recycling bins will remain in place around Globe-Miami. Please do not place glass of any kind in the cardboard bins.

Initially, the green bins will still be available to the public 24/7. They will be located just before the gate to the landfill at 5891 Hope Lane. Gila County thanks those residents who make the extra effort to recycle and help keep plastics out of our landfills.
