PROCLAMATION NO. 07-02

A PROCLAMATION TO DECLARE MAY 3,2007, AS NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER IN GILA COUNTY

WHEREAS, the United States Congress established the National Day of Prayer as an annual occurrence in 1952 and the first Thursday of May has been designated as the National Day of Prayer since 1988; and

WHEREAS, the pilgrims prayed on the Mayflower and their first act upon touching the soil in America was to kneel and pray; and

WHEREAS, Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano has proclaimed May 3rd as the National Day of Prayer or Reflection for the State of Arizona; and

WHEREAS, each year President George W. Bush has proclaimed the first Thursday in May as the National Day of Prayer for the United States of America; and

WHEREAS, at least five other observances of the National Day of Prayer are scheduled for May 3, 2007, in Payson, Pine and the GlobelMiami area;

NOW, THEREFORE, we, the members of Gila County Board of Supervisors do hereby proclaim May 3, 2007, as the National Day of Prayer in Gila County and encourage all citizens to pray on their own and give thanks for the rich blessings of our County, State and Nation.
