GILA COUNTY to celebrate National County Government Week April 22-28

Gila County to highlight Waste management, Pro-environmental issues, energy saving procedures, emergency preparedness.

Gila County will celebrate National County Government Week (NCGW) April 22-28 with an open house of county offices, displays, student leaders to visit with State Legislature members.

NCGW, sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo), was first celebrated In 1991 to raise public awareness and understanding about the roles and responsibilities of the nation’s counties. The theme for this year’s celebration of NCGW is “Protecting the Environment.”

Gila County’s featured events will be Earth Day Observance at San Carlos (4-22-07);  Open house of the county offices (4-23 through 4-25); Displays being presented by SRP, APS, SW Gas, Resolution Copper Co., County Community Services and County Recycling Program and Gila Community College (4-23-07); Presentation of county school contest awards at 10 a.m. during the Board of Supervisors Meeting (4-24-07); Emergency Preparedness Fair at Tonto Basin Kiwanis Club (4-24-07 from 5 to 7 p.m.); a presentation in Winkleman of a Recycling Bin; Planting of trees at the new Gila County RV Park (4-27-07); and a household hazardous products collections event in Globe (4-28-07). (This is scheduled for Payson on May 12). If you have questions please call Terry at 402-8511.

“Gila County is proud of the variety of services it provides to the community,” said Supervisor Shirley Dawson. “ National County Government Week is a convenient opportunity for the public to take a closer look at what we do, how we do it, and the people behind the services we provide.”
