Tuberculosis Control Services strong>When can I get a skin test for Tuberculosis? Skin tests (PPD’s) are administered on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. You will need to return in 48 hours to have the skin test read. Individuals are advised to call first to confirm that a nurse is available to administer and read the skin test. What happens if I don’t return two days later? Skin tests must be read between 48 and 72 hours after being placed. If you do not return during this time frame a new skin test must be administered. How much will a skin test cost me? Individuals 18 years of age and younger are tested for FREE. There is a $5.00 charge for adults. All contacts of an active case are tested upon request at no charge. What happens if my test comes back positive? Those individuals with positive skin tests will be referred to their primary care physician for further evaluation. If the individual does not have a primary care physician and insurance, they will be seen by the Office of Health Physician. Further evaluation will determine whether you have been exposed to tuberculosis or if you have active tuberculosis. Medicines will be prescribed for appropriate treatment. Preventive medicines will be provided by the Office of Health for those who need them free of charge. |
