Teen Pregnancy Prevention

Our goal is to increase community awareness and understanding of the need for education in relationships, sexuality and parenting, with the ultimate goal of reducing teen pregnancy.

  Did you know?

  • Since 2000 Arizona has ranked #3 in the United States for the number of children born to females aged 19 years old or younger.
  • In 2008 Gila County was ranked #1 in the State of Arizona for the number of births to females aged 19 years old or younger.

 In 2009 we ranked #2.

  Risk factors:

  • Teens are less likely to have prenatal care in their first trimester.
  • Teens have a greater rate of stillbirths.
  • Babies born to teen mothers have an elevated risk for poor birth outcomes such as low birth weight, pre-term birth and death in infancy.
  • Risk factors are increased due to the limited educational, social and financial resources available to teen mothers.
