How much will my child’s immunizations cost me?  The Gila County Office of Health encourages you to have your child immunized at the appropriate times and the appropriate ages.  Immunizations given at the Office of Health are FREE to all children 18 years of age and younger.
Adolescents will need vaccines when they turn 11-12 years of age or enter sixth grade, and again when they turn 16 years of age for a booster. See “Adolescent shots” for more information.

Your child will need to begin their immunizations at 2 months of age and we would be delighted to help you get those started.
Your child’s “baby shots” should be completed by 2 years of age.  See “Baby Shots” for more information
How will I know what immunizations my child receives?

You will be given written information regarding each immunization your child receives or is to receive.  In addition, the nurse will record the immunizations in an immunization booklet that is yours to keep.  You should bring this booklet with you for each visit.  This record is very important, without it your child will not be able to register or attend school – PLEASE TAKE CARE OF IT!

Baby Shots

Parents have to make many decisions about their children’s health. This includes deciding about childhood vaccines. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Academy of Pediatrics say that children should be immunized as soon as possible against 15 vaccine-preventable diseases. However, many parents worry about vaccine side effects. Sometimes they choose to delay vaccines or not to give them at all.

Sixty years ago, parents were much more worried about the side effects of diseases than about side effects from vaccines. Most people knew of someone whose child had been paralyzed by polio, hospitalized with measles, deafened by German measles (rubella), brain damaged from meningitis, or killed by whooping cough. As more and more vaccines became available, most parents did not ever see any vaccine-preventable diseases.

We are lucky to live in a time when vaccines can protect children against 15 serious diseases.Vaccines prevent infections and save lives. Vaccinating children protects not only the child, but also protects the rest of us. Vaccines are very good. Vaccine-preventable diseases are very bad. Please vaccinate your children fully, on schedule, and as soon as possible to protect them and the rest of us.

The Registered Nurses at the Gila County Office of Health will be happy to work with you to provide your child with the appropriate immunizations. For more information, please call
