How can I be ready for a disaster?
Learn as much as you can about emergency preparedness. Having a plan in place and supplies ready can help ease stress and panic. Visit the Gila County website often for updated downloads and links to help you make decisions about your safety and the safety of your family.

What is the EAS (Emergency Alert System)?
Emergency Alert System (EAS): The Federal Communications Commission, in co-ordination with FEMA, maintains a national program requiring the implementation of a digitized EAS network. The federal mandate requires participation by the broadcast industry, including television, radio and cable systems. The system enhances the capability of government agencies to alert specific communities throughout the state during times of emergency.  

What radio/television station should I tune to for emergency information?
Any local broadcaster is a member of the Emergency Alert System. Tune NOAA radios to: 162.500 MHz for the southern region of Gila County and 162.425 MHz for the northern region of Gila County. Both frequencies are operated 24/7 by the National Weather Service. NOAA weather radios are sold at major electronic retailers.
