| The Gila County Attorney’s Office established the Bad Check Program to help victims recover lost funds. Issuing a bad check is a misdemeanor and repeated offenses or high dollar offenses could result in felony prosecution. In the year 2002 the Gila County Bad Check Program recovered over $50,000.00 in restitution for it’s Victims
Offenders may avoid criminal prosecution if full restitution and statutory fees are paid in full within a limited time. However, the County Attorney reserves the right to prosecute any bad check offender. The BAD CHECK HANDBOOK provides detailed information on how to submit a dishonored check to the Program. It includes a sample Dishonored notice and a sign to warn off offenders. The Program is FREE to all victims for bad checks passed in Gila County.
