Evaporative Cooling Tips Some simple things to do to help keep your evaporative cooler running all season long: - Be sure to clean and re-coat/oil parts and install new pads prior to starting your cooler for the summer.
- Run 1 gallon of white vinegar through the cooler at least twice during the season to help reduce lime/hard water build-up.
- Put a capful of fabric softener in the cooler water at least once a week to help soften the water, or purchase products specifically for this at your local hardware store.
- Make sure you have enough air flow into the house to keep the cooler motor from overworking by opening several windows. An easy way to see if you have enough air flow is to open your door to go outside, if the door has a lot of resistence, then you do not have adequate air flow and need to open more windows.
- Drain and cover your cooler at the end of the season, also drain the water line to avoid breakage due to freezing.
- Cover with a canvas cover after the season is over.
- These are just some simple tips that a homeowner can do themselves to help the cooler last longer and run better.
