On December 4, 2001, the Gila County Board of Supervisors approved Ordinance #01-2, which became effective January 1, 2002. Ordinance #01-2 states the minimum qualification standards for persons performing Soil Classification, Percolation Tests, Site Assessments, On-site Wastewater Treatment Facility Design; prohibiting performance of such services by persons with a documented history of reporting inaccurate results, producing inadequate designs, or other potentially unethical of unacceptable behavior; additionally, Notice of Intent to Discharge, Design & Installation Requirements, Repair of existing On-site Wastewater Treatment Facilities; Penalties; and Appeals Process. For those individuals who may desire to RENEW or BECOME LISTED to practice Site Investigation and Conventional System Design in Gila County, this is to inform you of a change in the way that parties become listed to practice in Gila County. Gila County is developing and will present a one(1) day course covering: • Site Investigation and Reporting Overview • System Selection Overview • Standard System Design Overview • Gila County Procedures and Forms • Comprehensive Examination Listing renewal may be accomplished by completing this course and passing the comprehensive examination. Successful individuals will be recognized by Gila County as qualified to perform services as described in Gila County Ordinance #01-2 (Wastewater Ordinance). PREREQUISITES for the Gila County Listing Course to be listed for Site Investigator/Designer are: • Successful completion of the University of Arizona course “Soil and Site Evaluation for Onsite Wastewater Treatment System”(or one of the courses recognized by ADEQ as meeting the requirements of R18-9-A310.H.4), • Successful completion of the pre-requisite for the University of Arizona Soil and Site Investigation course which is currently the NAWT System Inspection Training being offered by the U of A and • Successful completion of the University of Arizona Standard System Design Course. PREREQUISITES for the Gila County Listing Course to be listed for Contractor/Installer are: • Successful completion of the University of Arizona “Onsite Installer Course”. This course offering sequence has been adopted to incorporate Gila County Practitioners into the statewide education program. This statewide education program, for the first time, provides a vehicle for individuals to: • Become qualified to perform site investigation activities throughout the State of Arizona, • Become involved in a Professional Development Program, and • Ensures that methods and practices being taught are consistent throughout the state. The statewide education program is intended to bring consistency to the On-Site Industry and reduce widely variant practices from county-to-county. The ultimate objective is to make it much easier for members of the On-Site Community, Realtors, Financiers, and Builders to do business in all counties. Through the link to the University of Arizona you will find descriptions and enrollment information for the University of Arizona courses that are prerequisites for the Gila County Listing Class. The names of those who have successfully passed appropriate examinations will be placed on the Gila County Contractors List for a period of two years. After two years, each person on the Contractors List will need to recertify.
