Tax Exemptions

To locate, identify and appraise at current market value, locally assessable property subject to ad valorem taxes and process exemptions specified by law, through fair administration, firm enforcement, and prompt and courteous service in a manner that justifies the highest degree of public confidence in our efficiency and integrity.
 
The Assessor does not set tax rates; does not send tax bills and does not collect taxes.

Functions of the Assessor

Discovery, identification, and location of taxable property within the County and within the various cities, school districts, and special taxing districts inside the County.
Classifying and valuing property within the County according to the standards and guidelines prescribed by the property tax statutes and the Department of Revenue.
Maintaining an ongoing list of property within the County and of property within the various taxing jurisdictions in the County.
Notifying property owners of proposed valuations.
Considering and acting on applications for changes in valuations from property owners.
Posting to the assessment roll all determinations on property tax appeals made by the County or Board of Equalization.
Preparing and certifying the assessment roll to the County Board of Supervisors, sitting as the County Board of Equalization.
